Connecticut Residents Object to the Proposed Plainfield Plant

Hartford Courant reporting preserved the result of Plainfield’s non-binding referendum and a joint opposition statement from the town’s Republican and Democratic committees.

What the coverage documented

The report recorded the referendum as 1,148 votes against the plant and 125 in favor. It also quoted the joint town-committee letter raising concerns about frequent garbage-truck traffic, wildlife and underground water sources.

The important limitation

The vote documents local opinion but does not bind CT DEEP or another state permitting authority. The truck and environmental statements are attributed concerns; project-specific impacts require the applicant’s technical filings and agency review.
