First Selectman's Account of the Sept 3 Council Meeting

Allow me to share the results of today’s Connecticut Siting Council virtual meeting where our Attorney Ann Catino, I and other residents attended via zoom, I note that several items were on the CSC meeting that preceded SMART.  As a result, the meeting was long, but regarding the requests for a hearing as to SMART, it was rather short. The requests were granted with little commentary.  So, we’ll have a hearing.  They didn’t discuss dates, so we’ll have to watch the website to see what the staff sets as dates.

Ann noted “three Council members did offer a little commentary – along the line of:  given the size of the project, it is very appropriate to hold a hearing. One member stated that they look forward to a “robust public hearing”.  Another member added that given the number of requests for a public hearing, it is appropriate to move forward with a public hearing”.

The next meeting will be September 17, where they may address our Motion to move to a Certificate proceeding and to declare the existing petition insufficient due to the failure to comply with the Environmental JusticeJ requirements. “

It is appropriate to continue to write to the Council regarding your sentiments on the SMART project. At this time, it is also appropriate for you to support the Town’s request that the Petition be withdrawn and ask that the project be considered instead under a full Certificate proceeding.
